The AI Of The Beholder

Personally I find the whole notion that AI can replace human creativity and inspiration as highly insulting! The rise of the machines is inevitable in this modern world, but what has been unexpected was the relish with which people have been been happy to accept that programmes like ChatGPT are in some way comparable in creative terms to the human mind. A chill ran through me writing that.

Really? Could AI create The roof of The Sistine Chapel? Or The Bathers or Girl With A Parl Earring, for that matter. Maybe it can get near an approximation by in putting something like: “in the style of Michaelangelo, Seurat or Vermeer. But would the result have the soul and secret talent which separates truly great artists from the so-so?

Art is unique, it is the perfect combination of feeling, heart, soul and artistic ability and none of these aspects, which are imposible to define, can be replicated or improved upon by a computer programme.

What do you think? We took a photo of the original Mona Lisa and put it alongside a version which has been AI generated.

Can you tell them apart?
